Permission.

NOTE: In lieu of the California Prop 8 ruling, I’m reposting this today. Please forward it to everyone you know.

With all the outcry over the amazingly lame “Gathering Storm” commercials (which I won’t link to) and the Miss California debacle, the media has been missing the other side of the story – namely, that the pro-gay marriage groups are organizing and advertising themselves quite well.

AdWeek has a post about this spot that’s running in New York. It’s kinda touching and presents its argument well, but there’s no big “Ah ha” moment in it that could really change people’s minds.

Instead, I prefer this one called “Permission” from a few years back. It’s an amazing concept – so simple, so well executed and so indisputable. I wish someone would pick it up and run it again everywhere. The end frame is crucial but kind of hard to read on YouTube, so pause it if you need to. The payoff is worth it.

One Response to “Permission.”

The Permission video is such a brilliantly simple concept – love it. One the topic of same-sex marriage, without getting on a giant soap box, this video came across my email a few months back and I found it really tender and touching with it’s message of “Don’t Divorce Us”: http://vimeo.com/3089746 – worth a share.
