Ah Ikea, I used to love your furniture – especially once I graduated from college and wanted to buy “real” stuff for my tiny apartment. The fact that your design is boring as hell and the particle board products you make are cheap wasn’t even a concern until I reached the age of, oh, 25. But even though I’m not a fan of your bookcases anymore, I am still a fan of your advertising. It’s always so clever. Take for example, these ads for the Ikea Assembly Service.
They’re simple. They don’t insult your intelligence. And once you get the joke, they’re actually quite funny. My one quibble is the Forsby ad. Sorry, but I’m not taking a shower while some random Ikea workers are in my house assembling my new table.

This warms my heart. In part because cause they are cute. Also because I love it when an ad takes an identifiable/ownable aspect of a brand and has fun with it while staying true to the brand’s personality.
Too often it seems the creatives walk into a brief thinking “Mustaches are funny. I want to use a mustache in my next ad regardless of who it’s for.”
