You decide. I think they’re similar and the idea may have started with “Hey, the Perspctv site is cool…” but I wouldn’t call it digital plagiarism or anything.

Total rip. I’ll bet some intern somewhere is sweating his balls off cuz he pinched the layout to get through a meeting.

Good to see CPB getting called on this, but dig deeper and you will find hordes of stuff that originated elsewhere that no one dares calls them on.

The first thing I thought of when I saw these was
    http://popurls.com/

So I think they are both ripping off what is by now a pretty standard link aggregate format.

I’m sure there are a dozen site templates that look like these (not to mention how many wordpress templates that look like dognpony).

As long as they don’t win any awards for it (gawd I hope they don’t), I’m not put off.

CP&B gets a lot of buzz. To aggregate all the buzz into one location to manifest more buzz is smart. Yeah it’s been done before. It’s Called social media. Relax haters. I’m not a big fan of Crispin but I’m careful crying RIP at every similarity I see.

You might actually look to the content management system for answers… both look very Drupal-esque. Drupal (open source, component-based) provides a variety of layouts out of the box. No, I don’t work there. But it can be difficult to move out of their layouts and, why not, you don’t have to pay a decent UI/UX designer!
