How do we talk about climate change?


As Creative Director of sustainability agency Saatchi & Saatchi S, I spent a fair amount of time thinking about how to talk about global warming to people. We took a tact of keeping things positive, making things personal, and walking that fine line of rational facts coupled with emotional arguments.

I won’t claim that’s the only way of doing it. In fact, new studies showing that fewer and fewer Americans even believe in human-cause climate change is cause to think that no one really has the answer. But the smart folks over at Future Lab have some great thoughts on it.

It really makes me wonder whether spots like the above United Nations’ “Seal the Deal” are on the wrong track – generic, verging on sensationalistic without backing anything up with facts, and little to no emotion. Then again, it’s better than this conceptually-confusing global warming commercial.
