Chicago’s Shamrock river.

Apparently ask and ye shall receive. Just the other day I was complaining that McDonalds doesn’t do enough to promote its Shamrock Shakes to their fanatical consumers. Then I see this.

Done by Leo Burnett in Chicago for St. Patty’s Day, it was set on the banks of the the river – which is dyed green for the celebration.

While this is obviously a limited stunt and not a true strategy to reach the fans, it’s a pretty damn cool idea nonetheless. I wonder if Shamrock Shake sales went up around Chicago today?

  1. Agreed! If it doesn’t make you want the product, it’s little more than ad-agency ego stroking. “Wow, what a cool idea” is not the same as, “Yummy! I want to try one of those!”
