The dangers of stock.

Unfortunately, these days cheap stock photography is more the rule than the exception for cheap clients and bad design. It can also be a godsend for clients who simply don’t have the budget for full-on photo shoots. But regardless of the reasons for using stock, it’s too bad that most clients and agencies don’t really understand (or pay attention) to the dangers attached to it.

Check out the stock photo on the right. Now read this post from the Fair Trade Photographer who chronicles at least 11 other times it’s been used – from the usual to the nearly-fraudulent. I’d laugh if I wasn’t so busy crying.

It gives you a lot to think about – including risking your client’s reputation. Definitely something to keep in mind the next time you sign on to iStock or Getty.
