Time Magazine’s Top 10 Commercials in 2010.

Oh, so it’s THAT time of the year, is it? Well, Time is out with it’s Top 10 Commercials of the Year. And I have to say, there’s a lot to argue with.

Of course #1 is a no brainer. In fact, all 4 W+K spots in the Top 10 are well deserved. But The Windows Phone at #5? Really? I mean, it’s a funny spot and all, but #5? It goes downhill from there. Geico “Piggy” at #9? Even the reviewer admits “It’s silly. And to many viewers, surely irritating.” So how exactly is that the 9th-best spot of the year?

#10 however takes the cake. When the review starts with “Yes, this Bridgestone tire ad is a total rip-off of the movie The Hangover…” and ends with “Does the ad convince you to trust the traction of Bridgestone tires? No.” then I’m not sure how you can say this is one of the best ads of the year.

I know you all have opinions. Let’s hear ’em. Which ads were left out that should have been in the Top 10?

  1. What is it that’s so irresistible about lists? Maybe it’s that we’re bound to disagree with at least one item on a list of ten, so we feel compelled to chime in. Lists are such engagement magnets. Anyway, it would have been nice to see some of the Fedex Office stuff. I also think a few of the Humane Society spots are very, very powerful.
